Invisalign

For children and teenagers, wearing metal brackets to straighten their teeth can put a dent in their self-esteem. At Tualatin Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer Invisalign, which can get you great-looking teeth without anyone knowing you are wearing braces.

WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

Invisalign are clear aligners designed with 3D technology to straighten your teeth. Since these aligners are almost invisible, comfortable, and easy to remove, many people prefer them to regular braces.

HOW DOES INVISALIGN STRAIGHTEN TEETH?

At Tualatin Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Emerson Rowley, DMD will take 3D impressions of your mouth to form a series of 18 to 30 custom-made clear plastic aligners. These aligners are removable and will need to be replaced with the next one in the series after every two weeks.

These aligners are meant to be worn 20 to 22 hours each day, and should only be taken off while you are brushing your teeth or eating a meal. Wearing them for the recommended time ensures they will not feel uncomfortable in your mouth, and you will get straight teeth in the required time frame. However, if you take off your Invisalign for extended periods, they will feel tighter and uncomfortable when you do put them in your mouth. It will also impact your treatment, and you may not get the results you desire.

CANDIDATES FOR INVISALIGN TREATMENT

People who qualify for Invisalign treatment include those who have:

  • Mild relapse after metal braces treatment.
  • Overbite, when the lower jaw is far back from the upper jaw.
  • Irregular jaw growth and gaps between teeth up to five millimeters because of tooth shifting.
  • Over-crowding of the mouth of up to 5 millimeters.

BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN TREATMENT

Fewer Dentist Visits

Regular metal braces require you to get the wires tightened after about every six weeks, depending on the condition of your teeth. With Invisalign treatment, you can get 18 to 30 aligners, which you can change at home every two weeks.

Fewer Dentist Visits

The wires or brackets on traditional metal braces can become loose or bent. This is not a concern with Invisalign because if it becomes damaged, you can simply replace it with the next one in the series.

Easier Cleaning

Brushing and flossing with metal braces can be quite challenging as food debris can get caught in the brackets and you may have difficulty accessing certain parts of your mouth with a toothbrush. Invisalign aligners allow you to simply remove them at the time you want to clean your teeth.

Invisible Material

Invisalign is made of a clear thermoplastic material, which is virtually invisible when you wear it. This can help boost your self-confidence.

Comfortable Fit

Metal brackets can often make your gums and the insides of your cheek and lips irritated and sore. Invisalign allows you a better fit and are smooth, flexible, and comfortable to wear.

Removable

Unlike metal brackets that remain fixed and can only be removed at the dentist, Invisalign can easily be removed from your mouth at any time.

The movement of your teeth is a complex physical, cellular, and biochemical process and requires you choose your healthcare provider very carefully.
