Dental bonding is a simple process that uses adhesives to apply resin that’s tooth-colored to your teeth. Afterwards, everything is bonded to your teeth with high intensity, blue curing laser light. Once the resin is hard, we’ll shape, trim, and polish the bond so it’ll match the rest of your mouth’s teeth. Typically, this process only takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth. While this may seem like much time, it’ll leave you with new, improved teeth. You’ll no longer have any chipping or discoloration to contend with. Although this is a permanent process, sometimes you may need to get your bonding either touched up or replaced. However, you won’t need to worry about it ever falling off.
Why We Use Dental Bonding
While crowns and veneers may damage your teeth, dental bonding is a noninvasive procedure that won’t. This is because we don’t need to remove much enamel from your healthy teeth, making it a great way to fix any gaps in your teeth. Instead, bonding is like filling a small chipped piece of enamel in your tooth. Both processes are quite simple in nature. The only real difference between them is the part of your mouth that’s worked on – fillings are best for the back part of your mouth where you’re unable to see them, while bonding is best for the front of your mouth where it’s more visible.
What Not To Expect From Dental Bonding
Dental bonding sounds great, but it can become stained. This is because it’s nonporous, meaning that it can’t be whitened. If it becomes stained, you must schedule an appointment to come into our office so we can polish it off.
It’s also possible for it to wear down over time. However, this isn’t any different from what you’d expect from your natural tooth enamel. Just make sure you know it can chip and crack.
What To Expect From Dental Bonding
The whole process is painless since we’re working on an area of your tooth that has little if any, sensitivity. This is great because it means you won’t need to receive any anesthesia for this procedure.
Once the dental bonding procedure is complete, it’ll last anywhere from 4-8 years on the front of your teeth. You can do some things that will make it last longer like avoiding biting directly into anything, so you don’t compromise its structural soundness. The underlying fact here is that your eating and chewing habits can impact your bonding.
